Will the Diving Lady Return?

Will the Diving Lady return?  Just a few weeks ago during an amazing storm the Diving Lady fell to the ground.

The Diving Lady has been a landmark in Mesa for approx. 50 years.  Many of us remember her from our childhood.  ...fond memories.

We are all wondering:  "Will the Diving Lady return?"

The EV Tribune says:  "the sign currently exists as a 'legal non-conforming sign,' meaning it was grandfathered in before the city put its current sign laws in place in the mid 1990s. The current law requires signs to be no taller than 12 feet and no more than 80 square feet in circumference. It also prohibits animated neon."

Mesa City Councilman Alex Finter told the Tribune on Monday that he suggests the city do “everything possible” and allow an exception for the sign to go back up.

Many Mesa residents have offered to help pay to restore the Diving Lady.

It looks like there is a good chance the Diving Lady will return.  :)

Wrigleyville West - Proposition 420

The drawings below are from the Keep the Cubs Website and are of the proposed Wrigleyville West...if Proposition 420 (Keep the Cubs) passes.  The stadium near Mesa Riverview would be surrounded by shops, restaurants, sports bars, and other fun places to hang out, creating a unique experience.

The spring training home for the Cubs right now is Hohokam Stadium in Mesa.  It is surrounded by a cemetery and housing developments.  People travel to Arizona to watch the Cubs during Spring Training.  The way it is now, they go to the game then leave Mesa to spend their money in other cities like Scottsdale and Tempe.

Do you want to keep the Cubs?

Rain, Hail, and High Winds Just Whipped Through Mesa, AZ

WOW!  I have NEVER seen weather like this in Mesa.  I am sure we will hear of some weather related damage by tomorrow.  Take a look at the pictures that I took around 1:30 p.m. today.

At one point there was so much wind, rain, and hail that I couldn't see across the street.  Amazing!
Look at the palm trees in the background.  The wind was whipping!
After the storm blew over I went out to hunt down my trash can...it's was half full of water.  I'll wait until it drains.  Good thing today was trash day and it was empty.
