Mesa Public Schools - First Day of School August 11, 2010 - Early Release

It's here!  The first day of school for all Mesa Public School students is Wednesday August 11, 2010.

All elementary and junior high students will have early release on the first day of school and every Wednesday throughout the school year.

Elementary schools that begin at 7:45 a.m. will be released at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Elementary schools that begin at 8:25 a.m. will be released at 2:25 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Junior high students will be released at 3:20 p.m. every Wednesday.

We Have Hungry Children in Mesa, AZ

Arizona Brainfood is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, whose goal is to discreetly provide a backpack of food to feed hungry children on the weekends. By so doing, they hope that each child will return to school every Monday morning mentally aware and physically able to concentrate.

Quick Facts:

Over 60% of Mesa, AZ students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.

Many of these children have very little or no food to eat on the weekends. They often go to bed hungry!

It has been proven, children that lack proper nourishment have lower test scores and more behavioral problems in school.

Mesa Public Schools to Pilot Online Homework Program

Mesa Public Schools is planning to pilot an online homework program... The Google based program will include e-mail, calendar, and spreadsheet programs. Mesa Academy for Advanced Studies will start in the fall, with plans to roll out to all secondary schools as soon as teachers and students can be trained.

The Class of 2010 has received more than $51 million in scholarship offers.

The seven high schools of Mesa Public Schools will honor nearly 4,100 students at commencement ceremonies.
